I've loved planning events since middle school- I helped organize a recycled fashion show when I was 12! I continued planning events throughout college and grad school, including galas and 5k runs, but didn't realize I could be successful making a career out of planning. It wasn't until I started a wildly different career in engineering that I realized I wanted and needed something creative, heartfelt, and meaningful. When my partner proposed to me, and I began planning my own wedding, I realized that this was the career path for me. I love planning in all of its little details, but seeing it all sewn together is a different feeling entirely. My favorite part of the planning process is getting to know my couples. It is more than just alleviating their stressors- it's getting to know them personally so I can get their event right. It is just the best feeling, making them happy.
Assisting a planner first is the best way to go. I didn't do this, and I think a lot of initial overwhelm could have been avoided if I had assisted a planner first!
